We Add Value!
Leon have recently been informed that our contribution to ‘Value Added’ scores were within the top scores nationally!
CVA is the score in which learners individual progress is tracked from when they start a Key Stage to when they finish. Value Added measures progress against tangible personal educational development. It is not based purely on GCSE results but monitors a learner’s own progress as an educationalist. Our Key Stage 4 results (1015) were within the highest 20% across the country whilst our Key Stage 5 results (1042) were within the top 2% of post 16 secondary education nationally.
A fantastic achievement for our learners and our school.

FOOTBALL: This evening our year 8 and 10 boys football teams travelled to Walton High. The year 10 game was a strongly contested match, Leon never led the game however were pleased to come away with a 4-4 draw. Special comment must be made for Deon Smith who made some high class saves to keep Leon within touching distance. The year 8 fixture saw Leon put on a dominant display, they maintained a large percentage of the possession and had the majority of the chances and came away deserved 7-5 winners. Please congratulate Harry Stratton, Callum Williams and Caleb Bolton for their impressive display. All 12 of the Leon learners were a credit to the school in both their attitude and behaviour in two physical games.
HOCKEY: We had the senior boys hockey tournament tonight. The unique thing about this was that we picked a team that was to represent the MK South Partnership instead of Leon & Lord Grey as separate shools from a 6th Form point of view. The whole tournament produce some very skilful and fast fluent matches and led to some exciting end to end hockey. Overall the standard was very high. The result were:
-MK South Partnership 0 v Ousedale 1 [first game for the players to play with each other and get to know each other, unfortunately we conceded an early goal but after that we had a few attacking plays ourselves and were unlucky on to get a draw out of the game].
-MK South Partnership 1 v Denbigh 0 [after some tactical switches of players positions, the team looked more threating and put Denbigh under pressure. From one attacking move, we recieved a penalty corner and from the set play we scored a goal from top of the "D" strike into the bottom left hand corner.
-MK South Partnership 0 v Stantonbury 0 [we went into to this game very positive and hopeful of getting a result against a good Stantonbury team. The game flow from end to end but with boh goalkeeper making some good saves the game finished out goalless.
With the league table being being close and two teams still able to win tournament, MK South had to watch the last game not sure whether we had a chance of finishing top two. However Ousedale fought out a 2 -1 reult against Denbigh so the partnership finished 2nd overall. We are now planning our next partnership team for the Senior Mixed Hockey Tournament on Thursday 1st Dec.
BADMINTON Nov'11:
8 of our year 9 and 11 learners travelled to Shenley Brook End for a badminton fixture. Shenley had double the number of participants than us which lead to our learners playing without rest for the entire evening. The level of competition was very high considering that Shenley had at least one county or regional player in each year group.Once all the matches had been completed the results were as follows:
Year 9 boys – Leon Won 6-0
Year 9 girls – Leon Lost 6-1
Year 11 boys – Leon lost 6-1
Year 11 girls – Leon won 4-3
After count back of the results Shenley Brook End won the event 15-12.
A special mention must be made for Mohammed Ali who was pulled in after the end of school to play up a year group. This meant that he did not have the correct footwear and played the entire tournament in his school shoes. As you can see from the result he held his own against opponents a year older than himself. At the end of the evening Mohammed and Redwan asked if they could play Shenley’s year 11 best pairing who our year 11 pairing had lost earlier to 11-2. After a very impressive display Mohammed and Redwan came out winners 11-7, Mohamed at this point playing 3 years above his own age. Please congratulate Mohammed if you see him after a very impressive display.

STUDENT COUNCIL
Our student council is the true voice of Leon.
In the past year our council have been responsible for the introduction of our new school uniform, one which is now worn by our learners with pride. The council have also been involved in the “Teacher Oscars”, a reward scheme for the teachers which is a way of allLeon learners saying thank-you to the staff for their hard work.
Our newest developments involve the running of our school newspaper, the rag, which is a school newspaper for the students by the students. This paper involved articles on Leon in the community, our very own literacy agony aunt and personal reflections by learners on events they have attended at or with the school.
The council is at the very forefront of change at Leon, they are positive and proactive group which aim to take on board the ideas of their peers and put them into practice with the full support of the head and staff. The new shape of the council means that we now reach a wider range of learners from various parts of the school as we link ourselves with our new student representative scheme

15th Leon Platoon Buckinghamshire Army Cadet Force
The Army Cadet Force is a national youth organisation which provides young people with many key life skills as well as develops a sense of pride of themselves and their units.
The ACF has been very inspirational in the lives of many since it formed in 1859. Cadets develop a sense of their ability through the principals of the ACF:
- Discipline – the underlying principal of the ACF is its Discipline, we train with dangerous equipment, learn to deal with dangerous situations. We must remain disciplined.
- Service – we are a service for our Community, County Head Quarters, Division and Country. Our actions must reflect that fact.
- Pride – we are proud of our units and achievements. We take pride in our appearance, our presence and our conduct. We uphold the traditions and history of the Army as the best trained force upon the planet.
To maximise our training we use the same equipment the Army uses. The L98A2 GP Rifle is used to teach the cadets weapon handling skills, shooting skills and respect.
All instructors are qualified to train cadets on the use of the equipment we have at our disposal.
Cadets aged 16 and over can earn a BTEC First Diploma in Public Services, absolutely fee-free. That's the equivalent of 4 GCSE's at A-C level.
The aim of Leon Platoon will be to place every cadet through this qualification. 4 GCSE’s for doing a hobby!
As a member of the ACF you will automatically train and be tested for all the requirements of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. All three awards are available alongside the normal training.
DofE is recognised by employers as an award showing service, teamwork and leadership.
Leon School and Sports College is the only school in the UK which supports the ACF during its timetable. It is a unique feature of the school.

The Artists’ Voice: Edith Garcia + Leon School Learners
MK Gallery Project Space
The Leon School exhibitors have produced a diverse range of ceramic works inspired by
Garcia’s work, by their own personal lives, by the Mexican ‘Day of the Dead’, graffitti, comic
books and urban culture. With little or no prior experience of working in clay, the participating
learners enjoyed a process of discovery, during which they were able to develop both their
drawing and ceramic skills to produce some delightfully innovative pieces.
Speaking of her residency at the Leon School & Sports College and the resulting exhibition, Edith Garcia said: “The Leon School learners brought a fresh and energetic approach to working with clay, and
were without artistic preconceptions. They created some amazingly interesting results by
incorporating found objects in their work and by reconsidering past examples from art history
from Picasso to Jeff Koons”
