Headteacher, Leon School, Milton Keynes

Welcome to our Sir Herbert Leon Academy website

In September 2012 Sir Herbert Leon Academy opened. The predecessor school was Leon School and Sports College (1970 – 2012). When Leon closed (31.08.2012) we had just recorded the best set of academic and social data in the school's history.

Becoming an Academy opens up some further wonderful possibilities as we work with our sponsor AET to secure even more student progress and even higher standards in even better learning facilities for our young people.

New starts are good for all sorts of reasons – in our case from September 2012, a new blazer, new canteen, ICT, science and student reception facilities, a new governing body and a new determination to move to become an “outstanding” school following our 2011 June OFSTED – noting Leon as “a good school with outstanding features”.

The Academy
SHL Academy is an 11-19 Mixed Comprehensive in Bletchley, South Milton Keynes. Our 6th form/KS5 delivery is via a successful partnership with Lord Grey School – we call ourselves the South MK Key Stage 5 Partnership. Our Academy has some 800 learners and employs 120 dedicated adults. Our learners are loyal, lively, typically ambitious and proud to represent their Academy and community. They wear a new uniform they initiated and are
gaining academic confidence in giant strides. Our people are our strength, of whatever age!

Facilities
The Academy is blessed with some wonderful learning facilities, particularly in Sport and the Arts; a new library; a theatre/cinema and is fully equipped with the latest ICT teaching technology in every classroom. Our computer ratio is better than 1:2. The Academy has both Arts Mark and Sports Mark Gold (since reaccredited) and it is three times Investor in People. We are easily budget solvent and our exam results are improving year on year. Our dramatic academic progress reflects our ever improving teaching and learning together with upward trends in attendance and behaviour.

Visitors
Whether you are just browsing or looking for something specific your interest is appreciated. We always welcome visitors – any arrangements can be made via Christine Adkins (cadkins@shlacademy.org) – 01908 624720 at Academy.

Our website covers three separate areas of „business‟: the Leisure Centre; the Arts/Media Centre – both open to the community and the main Academy. Once again, welcome to SHL – it demonstrates how we are achieving a better future for our young people and our community.

We are very excited and optimistic about our future. We know our strengths – (curriculum, discipline, leadership, teaching) and plan to keep on raising results in the years to come.
